This combination of carrots, apple and pear is so sweet that you can barely taste the salmon. It is also an excellent afternoon snack to give to your baby. My son loved it as a main meal with salmon and as snack without.
Salmon is an excellent source of high-quality protein, vitamins and minerals (including potassium, selenium and vitamin B12) but it is their content of omega-3 fatty acids that receives the most attention.They are contribute to healthy brain function, the heart, joints and general wellbeing. Omega-3 is termed as an essential fatty acid because the body cannot synthesise it itself and must be obtained from the diet.
I steamed and blended salmon and rice separately to carrots, apple and pear, as I wanted to freeze the leftover for another time with different vegetables and fruits. You can steam and blend everything together too if you prefer.
- 70gr fresh salmon (de-boned)
- 2 full tbsp cooked brown rice
- 2 large carrots (peeled & chopped)
- 1 sweet apple (peeled, cored & chopped)
- 1 ripe pear (peeled, cored & chopped)
- 100-150ml breastfeeding milk, steamed water or pre-boiled water
- Steam carrots (or with salmon and rice) for 15 mins in a baby cook.
Remove and steam apple for 5 mins. Or steam for 10 min in a steamer, then add apple and steam for another 5 mins.
- Add liquid, pear and blend until desired consistency. Remove the puree from the baby cook.
- Steam salmon and rice for 15 mins. Add liquid and blend
- Take out a portion of salmon and a portion of the other puree. Mix well together and serve. The leftover salmon can be frozen and the leftover of the other puree can be served as a snack in the afternoon.
- If using breast milk then wait until everything has cooled down first before blending.
- This is suitable for freezing. Do not freeze if you have used thawn beastmilk.
